School Notes — Urbana and Middletown choirs to be PBS stars

Originally published October 20, 2009

Kudos to the Concert Choir and Chamber Ensemble of Urbana High School. Students in these groups were selected to perform for a PBS television show called "Celebrate America."
The combined choir is being filmed today. The program is the brainchild of Tim Janis, a composer and arranger who has created 13 compositions that will be sung by 13 choirs from across Maryland.
Middletown High School's choir was also chosen to participate in the project.
Urbana choir director Monika McCormick wrote in an e-mail that DVDs and CDs will be made after the taping. The show will be aired on PBS, Channel 26, though McCormick said she has not yet been told the date.
Congratulations to all involved in both groups. It's impressive for Frederick County to be home to two of just 13 choirs in the state chosen for the honor.
